The Challenge
M-KIA 79 ver 2.0 was created to improve the healthcare services at Sungai Pinang village’s Integrated Healthcare Center for Mother and Child. The center faced challenges with conventional manual methods and frequent floods, leading to the loss of patient records and public trust.
To address these issues and align with Telkom University’s mission to support Sustainable Development Goals, a healthcare companion mobile app was proposed. M-KIA 79 aimed to enable Quality Education, Good Health and Well-Being, and Sustainable Cities and Communities for Sungai Pinang village.
The Solution
Further research suggested that a healthcare companion mobile app integrated to Sungai Pinang’s Healthcare Center would ease and eventually solve the problems experienced by both the people of Sungai Pinang and their health workers. As a result, in relation to Telkom University’s mission to support Sustainable Development Goals, M-KIA 79 was made as an act to enable Quality Education, Good Health and Well-Being, but also Sustainable Cities and Communities through Sungai Pinang village.
M-KIA 79 ver 2.0 was designed and developed heavily with Human-Centered Design in mind. The mobile app was specifically made to support the people of Sungai Pinang village who were not considerably literate in technology as their knowledge and use of mobile devices were very limited. The simplistic and bold design nature of the app’s colors and components were implemented with the villager’s capabilities and knowledge of mobile app usage in mind to make the experience as seamless and as natural as possible for them.
From the development of M-KIA 79 we truly learned that a relatively great, modern, and trendy app design doesn’t always translate to a great experience, hence the target user’s needs and capabilities should always be prioritized.
